The Power of Why - A Life Lead with Intent is a Healthy Life

Updated: Jun 10, 2023

Do you have a reason for the lifestyle you lead or do you blindly follow orders from a professional, no questions asked?

I can not tell you the number of times I have asked a patient, “Do you know why you’re on this medication?”, and the answer being, “I don’t know, my doctor just tells me to take it – so I do”.

Let me tell ya, the patients who get discharged faster from the hospital are the ones who have their meds memorized down to the minute they’re due. These patients know why they are on each medication and ask their doctor when the dosage can be changed, decreased, or when they can be taken off of the medication completely.

As soon as their doctor adds a medication to their list they have not seen before, some of my patients will not take it until they have a conversation face-to-face with the doctor about it.

These people ask me for updated information from the doctor’s notes, what their latest imaging / blood tests showed, what information to add to the doctor’s note - the list goes on.

The same can be said for my lifestyle clients.

The people who are the most successful in my coaching program ask me the most important question - WHY?

“Hey coach, why would you recommend I eat carbs in a meal closer to bed?”, “Why did you add another serving of fats to my macros this week?”, “If I carry out your current instructions, when do you project that I can start my fat loss phase and is there anything else I need to be doing to set myself up for success?”, “Why do I feel crampy when I eat, ‘x’ food and what should I do about it?”.

Asking why is the key ingredient in leading one’s life with intent.

That “why” is your ‘heading’ on your quest towards a healthier you.

It’s the reason behind every action you do, every habit, every pill you take, everything you put in your body, the list goes on.

Without your heading, without a direction, you’ll be a ship on a voyage with no map. How far do you think you’ll get…? How can you get to your destination without direction?

Wake the heck up, put your daily actions / habits on a recall and ensure they align with your purpose.

Lastly - remember, a health professional’s job is to collect your data and give you a recommendation. It is YOUR job to decide whether their recommendation aligns with your “why” and whether you wish to follow through on said recommendation.

Your body. Your life. Your choice.

Sac up and take ownership of your body.
